If you’ve ever tried tapping (aka EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique), you know how amazing it is that such a simple technique can almost instantly change how you feel and bring you immediate relief. EFT is a tool that I have been using for several years to help people work through those sticky feelings and beliefs so that they can begin to create the life they want. When it comes to intentionally co-creating your reality, dealing with the limiting perspective is essential and is the biggest reason people often aren’t able to manifest what they want. If youâve struggled to create the version of life you want even though it feels like youâve tried all the thingsâyouâve done the affirmations and positive thinking and visualizationâyouâre not alone. These manifestation practices absolutely do work, but only when you are not pushing against a whole lifetime of heavy emotions.Â
Imagine a cork being held underwater, unable to float to the surface. The cork canât float because it is weighed down. This is what happens when we carry heavy emotions and disempowering perspectives about ourselves and our abilities. We are weighed down and it becomes really hard to âfloatâ no matter how hard we try. But if those heavy feelings are released, itâs like letting go of the cork and letting it naturally float to the surface. From this place of not working so hard to counter-act heavy feelings with positive thinking, the principles of the law of attraction (visualization, affirmations, etc.) actually work!Â
Now, imagine being able to clear long-standing limiting beliefs and heavy emotions thatâwhether you are fully aware of it or notâare keeping you stuck in the very patterns you are trying so hard to change.
Beliefs like not being good enough or not worthy enough, and feelings of shame, powerlessness and self-doubt (and many others) keep us rooted in the past, never allowing for circumstances to really change. These emotional patterns (that have become habitual at this point) anchor us into a pattern of creating the same future based on a known past, over and over.
But what if there was a way to shift these patterns? And what if there was a way to shift them quickly?
This is where Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or âtappingâ) comes in. EFT is a simple and effective technique to release stuck energy from the body using acupuncture points while calling up the disempowering emotion or belief, allowing it to move, and then affirming an empowering viewpoint.Â
This technique has been popular since the 80âs, and since itâs been around for a while there have been many studies done on it. Some of the benefits of EFT include:
The first point about lowering cortisol levels and calming the nervous system is significant. One of the things that keeps people from being able to heal and break free from unhelpful patterns is that their nervous systems are constantly wound up. If you are chronically in ‘fight or flight’ mode, which prevents the parasympathetic nervous system from switching to ‘rest and digest’ mode, it becomes very challenging to make any real changes, with either your mindset or physical health.
The most obvious and immediate effects of tapping are feelings of calm, relief and freedom as you begin to let go of something that, perhaps, youâve been carrying for your entire life. Imagine what it would be like to feel unburdened in that way! I can tell you from personal experience, and from many of my clients, that itâs amazing.Â
The results in your life can be subtle at firstâyou have to be paying attention and keep re-affirming the new patterns of thought. If you are paying attention, though, what you’ll most often notice is that you have access to perspectives and awarenesses that you couldn’t see before. Empowering beliefs that were out of reach before now become thoughts and feelings that you can begin to practice and embody. And since reality is a reflection of your inner world, these seemingly subtle changes end up being dramatic.

EFT can be used to help reduce any heavy feelings and reinforce more empowering ones. This is the main technique that I use with my clients to get to the root of their physical health challenges and guide them toward a happier, freer and healthier version of themselves.
